How to Grill Tomahawk Steaks
BY: ANDREA ALDEN
Some cuts of meat look really impressive when served - the tomahawk steak is one of them. But how do you grill tomahawk steaks? It's easy to do with one of my favorite grilling methods that produces the best results: reverse roasting. Lots of delicious spices, a touch of smoky aroma and frying in the SIZZLE ZONE: This romantic dish is easy to prepare. Whether it's for Valentine's Day or simply as a special meal for two, this recipe is sure to impress.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tomahawk steak, approximately 1.1 kg
- 2 tbsp spice mix “Club House La Grille Steakhouse Onion Burger”
- 1 tbsp seasoning mix “Club House La Grille Montreal Steak”
- 1 tbsp spice mix “Club House Signature Blends Garlic Plus”
- 1 1/2 cups Napoleon smoking chips of your choice
PREPARATION
- Preheat grill to 120-150°C and prepare for indirect grilling by lighting the two outer burners.
- Mix the spices in a small bowl. Rub both sides of the tomahawk steak firmly with the spice mixture.
- Place the Napoleon digital wireless grill thermometer in the middle of the meat. Set the cooking level on the thermometer approximately ten degrees lower than the actually desired cooking level. Place smoking chips in a stainless steel smoking pipe.
- Place the meat on the grill between two burners. Place the filled smoking pipe over a lit burner.
- Cook the tomahawk steak for approximately one hour and twenty minutes or until it almost reaches the desired internal temperature.
- As soon as the steak has reached this temperature, set the infrared SIZZLE ZONE to the highest level. If you don't have a side burner, turn one of the lit burners to high and also light the one next to it and turn it to high. Remove steak from grill and let rest while grill preheats.
- Fry tomahawk steak for 1-2 minutes on each side until it begins to brown deeply.
- Serve sliced and hot with your favorite side dishes, such as baked potatoes and vegetables.
Let me say one thing about preparing a special meal for someone: the evening is won with a really impressive tomahawk steak. What are you cooking for someone special?
